What is in it

Gift cards, feature by feature.

A card is a multi-purpose voucher, so its sale carries no VAT: the VAT is charged on the bill it later pays, like any other bill.

Sell at the till

Sell a card for cash or any till tender, top it up later, and print its number for the guest.

Not a sale

Money taken for a card sits on the shift under Gift cards sold, outside net sales and VAT, and the drawer expects its cash.

Store credit

A refund can become store credit: a new card for the amount instead of the money back.

Gift card is a tender on the pay sheet. Check the balance, take all or part, and put the rest on another tender.

Before you believe it

The three questions everyone asks.

Does selling a gift card count as sales?

No. It is money held for the guest, shown on the Z under Gift cards sold. The sale and its VAT come when the card pays for a bill.

Can a guest use a card at another outlet?

Yes. A card is good at every outlet of the company, and its balance is checked at the till before it is taken.

Does a gift card work while the till is offline?

No. The card is checked and charged on the server, so while the till is offline it asks for another payment.
