Careers

Built by people who close the till.

delEat is a small team in Dubai building the point of sale its own restaurants run on. If that appeals more than it alarms, read on.

What this is

The shortest version of the job.

delEat did not start as a product. It started as a problem on a busy Friday at a till that was supposed to be the easy part. It runs on live tills today, every shift, not a demo copy. That is the whole culture, really: when something breaks, we are the ones standing at the counter when it does.

The work is not abstract. A slow screen is a queue at a counter. A printer that does not fire is a ticket the kitchen never saw. A report that rounds badly is a number an owner makes a decision on. You will get to see all of that happen, which is rarer than it sounds and is the best part of the job.

How we work

Four things that are true of every role here.

We use it ourselvesThe product runs a real restaurant group. Nothing ships that the people who run those outlets would not accept on a Friday night.
It is testedAn automated suite, a live smoke test and a phone-width audit run against the product before it reaches a counter. Nobody here argues that tests slow things down.
Support is everyone'sLive chat is staffed twenty four hours a day from Dubai. Whatever your role, you will read what customers actually say.
Small team, whole problemsYou own a thing end to end, from the decision to the screen to the outlet it lands in. There is no layer between you and the result.

The kinds of roles

Four shapes of work, whatever they end up being called.

We are not listing open positions here, because we would rather hear from the right person than fill a title. These are the four areas the work falls into.

  • EngineeringThe till, the kitchen screens, the dashboard and everything behind them run in a browser, with a local print agent for macOS and Windows driving network, USB and Bluetooth printers. Work here means offline behaviour that has to be right, money arithmetic that has to be exact, and screens a cook can read across a pass.
  • SupportLive chat with a person, any hour of any day, from Dubai. Not a form and not a morning queue. The job is to know the product well enough to answer in one message, and to be the reason a shift keeps trading.
  • ImplementationOnboarding is menu loading, printer configuration and staff training, and migration is bringing a restaurant off Sapaad or a CSV, and Foodics, Square or Lightspeed on request, with a map, a preview, a dry run and a rollback. This is the role that stands in the outlet the week it switches.
  • SalesTalking to operators about what they actually run and what it costs them, with a price list that is published and a product that takes no cut of their sales. There is nothing to oversell here, which changes the conversation entirely.

How to apply

One email, and make it a short one.

Write to [email protected] with "Careers" in the subject line. Tell us which of the four areas above you are writing about, what you have built or run, and one thing you would change about a point of sale you have used. Attach whatever shows the work: a CV, a repository, a project, a shift you turned around.

We read everything that is addressed to a person rather than to a list. We reply to everything we read. If there is nothing open in your area we will say so rather than leave you waiting, and we will keep what you sent for the next time there is.

What you send is used to consider you for a role and for nothing else. The privacy policy says what happens to it.
